한화파워시스템 에너지 장비 개발 및 중점 R&D 현황
Hanwha Power Systems entered the industrial energy equipment market in 1997 based on its reliable technologies and extensive experience built up in the gas turbine engine sector. Since then, it has grown into a global company with worldwide sales of more than 4,500 units annually. Based on its expertise in air compressors for various industrial applications, the company has developed a rich lineup of technology-intensive products with high added value, including fuel gas compressors for power plants, boil-off gas compressors for LNG terminals and plants, extremely low-temperature compressors, expanders, and compressors for LNG carriers. In 2011, Hanwha Power Systems made inroads into the gas compressor market. It is currently the only South Korean energy equipment manufacturer with the capability to design, produce, and test high-capacity, high-pressure gas compressors with its own technology. The company’s high-efficiency compressors and expanders that boast competitive delivery schedules and core components based on homegrown technology offer unrivaled competitiveness to customers. In 2013, Hanwha Power Systems rolled out the world’s largest air-cooled turbo compressor, SA3100, and the following year, the company finalized a contract for the world’s first maritime VRU (Vapor Recovery Unit) turbo compressor, further expanding its portfolio. In addition, in 2015, the company launched LD (low-duty) and HD (high-duty) compressors for LNG carriers, offering solutions specifically targeting shipbuilding companies. Hanwha Power Systems envisions becoming a total energy solutions provider. To achieve this vision, the company first plans to strengthen its compressor business portfolio and successively expand to turbine business to offer solutions to petroleum gas and power generation customers. In 2015, as part of its effort to secure solutions for power generation systems, the company won a supercritical CO2 (sCO2) engine project from the U.S. Department of Energy, on which the company is collaborating with SwRI (Southwest Research Institute) based in the U.S. The sCO2 project is expected to bring about game-changing solutions that will replace the existing steam turbines on the market and create a new demand in the field of distributed power generation. Moreover, in 2017, the company began the development of an oxy-fuel gas turbine, an eco-friendly, high-efficiency generator, in collaboration with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) with the aim of securing a leading position in the area of environmentally friendly power generation solutions going forward.
