Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is an effective technique for capturing a specific species of particle selectively from mixtures. So, an electrokinetically enhanced biosensor can be accomplished by constructing concentration electrodes set for DEP capture of biomolecules and detection electrodes for electrical sensing or detection. However, when those biosensors are operated in microfluidic device, many target biomolecules are flown away due to the small area of concentration/detection region. So, prior to the DEP capture of particles, we propose the electrohydronamic focusing of them. Thanks to the electroosmotic (EO) convection and levitation by negative DEP force, the particles were focused near to the focusing electrodes, and they were easier to be captured by concentration electrodes than without focusing. 3D simulations were conducted to check the enhanced DEP capture of particles with focusing, and particle capture will be experimentally investigated as well.
