Design and Construction of an Integrated LOCA Experiment Facility
Nuclear regulatory organizations have been actively reinforcing their standards after the severe accident of Fukushima, requesting reasonable mitigation capability for severe accident which may cause leakage of radioactive elements. Proper experimental facilities are necessary to simulate to simulate and analyze most severe accident conditions which involves thermal hydraulics, fracture mechanics, material engineering. We have designed and now building a single-rod integrated loss-of-coolant-accident (LOCA) experimental setup which covers boiling, blowdown, ballooning, burst and quenching process for simulated nuclear fuel rod. We are planning to compare the results with core simulation codes, e.g., FRAPTRAN and SPACE for validation.
