Optimum design of fog removal system on the road
Fog is an atmospheric phenomenon that causes a high frequency of accidents among natural disasters. Especially, in the case of a collision accident on the road, it has the highest mortality rate compared to other meteorological phenomena. In this study, we have dealt with the design of a fog removal mesh consisting of a hygroscopic material and the design of a fog removal flow system to effectively remove the fog generated on the road. First, we investigated dehumidification efficiency of the fog removal mesh with respect to its spacing, thickness, wettability and porosity. Second, based on the drag force acting on vehicles by the dehumidified air passing through the mesh, we showed the maximum wind speed of dehumidified air required for the vehicles' stable running. Finally, we performed experiments to verify our fog removal theories and then showed the degree of improvement of visibility due to dehumidified air inflow. This study are expected to provide a design rule for the design of fog removal system on the road.
