Demands and trends in high voltage Self-blast circuit breakers are toward compactness and cost efficiency, so most of GIS designers prefer adequate computer simulation in the design phase in order to achieve compact size together with the performance of products. The travel curve of moving contacts is considered as one of the essential data for a HVCB development and related simulation. For this reason, at the concept design stage, it is necessary to predict travel data with sufficient precision prior to prototype manufacturing. For this purpose, a coupled fluid-mechanical dynamics analysis method is presented in this paper.
