A multiphysics model for the stress analysis of graphite/PVDF composite electrode of Li-ion batteries
ALI YASIR, IQBAL NOMAN, 이승준(동국대학교)
Capacity fade inside electrode particles is one of the bottleneck in the design of high performance electrodes. Stress inside polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) binder occurs because of volume change of active material corresponding to the intercalation/de-intercalation processes and geometric constraints. PVDF geometry gives a mechanical constraint to the expansion and contraction of active particles, leading to higher stress at the interface. In this paper, a model is analyzed using graphite-PVDF composite electrode, and the effects of lithiation and de-lithiation on stress inside electrode particles as well as inside binder are studied.
