The PAUT method in a nuclear power plant for dissimilar metal welds test during in service inspection is widely used due to the benefits such as beam focusing and steering of ultrasonic beams without moving the probe. In order to generate ultrasonic waves, wedge was being used as an intermediate medium. However, issues arise in terms of cost efficiency and usability since wedge is mostly dependent on foreign companies. Therefore, in this study, the manufacturing technique was proposed to fabricate wedges suitable for dissimilar metal welds by analysing the sound field. The optimal values according to the required variables for the wedge was deduced and compared with the commercial wedge.
