Multi-Phenomena CFD and its Applications to Industrial Problems
Recent advances in CFD enable us to understand the complicated flow phenomena and, hence, to design efficient flow systems, which include multi-dynamics, multi-physics, and multi-scale flow problem. In the talk, research activities in our multi-phenomena CFD ERC to solve these complicated problems will be introduced. Some of the examples will be given in the talk, which include flow analysis on a wind turbine, two-phase hydraulic couplings, designing a blood pump, and some LES simulations.
There are numerous industrial applications for which multi-phase flow simulation is required to analyze the performance of the turbomachines, which include industrial mixers, cavitating pumps, fluid couplings and retarders operating in part-load condition, and operation of gear systems partly submerged in an oil pool. Examples of the simulation for these machines by using VOF (Volume of Fluid) method for interfacial tracking and sliding mesh and overset mesh techniques to account for the motion of the moving parts are addressed.
