Functional Assessment of an Induced Gas Flotation Vessel
김윤제(성균관대학교)
A steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD), commonly used in oil sands plant, is a process to dissolve petroleum components in the ground with hot steam injected from the production process and to separate out the oil and impurities after extracting the bitumens mixed with water to the ground. The SAGD technique is superior to other mining techniques in terms of efficiency, but a large amount of water is required because of mainly using steam. In particular, the crude oil extracted by the SAGD technique is firstly separated from the oil emulsion of 200 micron or more in FWKO which separates water and oil by gravity sedimentation, and the fine micro-particles below that are treated in the induced gas flotation (IGF) machine. The IGF machine is one of the water treatment equipments that purify waste-water using the air bubble generated by mechanical agitation. In this study, numerical analysis with various types of blade configuration (curved and flat blades) and the two types of the IGF (horizontal and vertical) on the flotation performance was conducted using the commercial code, ANSYS CFX. In addition, the results of void fraction, non-dimensionalized power number, and turbulent kinetic energy were predicted and compared with various IGF models.
